We’re excited to have Caro Hernandez join Deb, Valerie, Sam, and Mackenzie in our Capacity Building department as a Project Coordinator.
Caro brings nearly a decade of experience in sexuality education to Healthy Teen Network. During that time, she provided training and technical assistance and created customized materials that built the capacity of community, healthcare, and school-based partners to implement culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and age-appropriate evidence-based sexuality education programs for youth.
Her work is fueled by the pursuit of health equity and inclusion in sexual and reproductive health…Caro believes that by building the capacity of youth-serving professionals, we are one step closer to creating a future generation of thriving individuals.

In her role at Healthy Teen Network, Caro coordinates virtual and in-person events and contributes to the development of instructional design and resource materials. She also supports evidence-based program training and technical assistance efforts.
Prior to joining Healthy Teen Network, Caro provided technical assistance and capacity building for HIV prevention organizations throughout the Southern U.S. Caro also worked at youth-serving organizations focused on adolescent sexual and reproductive health in North Carolina and San Antonio. Caro holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Adult Education from Eastern Carolina University.
When she’s not working, you can find her spending time with her wife and their dog (Lock), binge-watching Bob’s Burgers, or traveling to see family and friends back home in Texas and Florida.

We asked Caro what she wished she had learned in sex ed growing up but didn’t, and she shared, “I wish I had learned about consent. So much of the sex ed I received was rooted in shame and fear, and I didn’t even know consent was a thing until I was much older. I think it is so important to learn about healthy boundaries and bodily autonomy.”
As the weather starts to get chilly, she loves watching the leaves change colors, enjoying the cooler weather and all the clothes that come with it, and of course, Halloween!
Welcome to the crew, Caro!
