Positive Prevention Plus Implementation, Observation, & Reporting Guidance
2022
A big part of the True You Maryland project involves implementing Positive Prevention Plus (3P) in schools and communities. 3P is an evidence-based, comprehensive family life and human sexuality curriculum. As a project, True You Maryland collects the following information on 3P implementation:
- How many young people attend 3P curriculum sessions
- The demographics (age, grade, gender, ethnicity) of the young people who attend 3P curriculum sessions
- The attendance of young people at 3P sessions
- Teachers’ and/or facilitators’ adherence to the activities in the 3P curriculum (also known as “fidelity”)
- The quality with which teachers and facilitators deliver the 3P curriculum
Data Collection Tools
The True You Maryland evaluation team has developed a series of tools, summarized below, that are designed to make the collection of this information a smooth and easy process. These data collection tools are provided and summarized below. (As a reminder, 3P reach and attendance information is never collected directly from students. Everything on this project is collected through teachers and/or other school system personnel.)

Reporting Schedule
This is where you will report on your project’s progress each quarter, and provide information that will be used to report True You Maryland’s performance measures to the federal Office of Population Affairs. A summary of the True You Maryland reporting schedule is provided below.
For 3P Observers to Complete:
Positive Prevention Plus Observation Form
Each teacher or health educator who implements the 3P curriculum is required to be observed once per year. Every observer is identified by the county implementation lead and trained by the True You Maryland evaluation team.
For 3P Teachers/Facilitators to Complete:
Family Life and Human Sexuality Implementation Form
At the start of every school year, please share this form with health teachers and/or facilitators who will be implementing 3P in your county. The form will collect information on teachers’ planned implementation dates, preferred observation dates/times, and any support they would like in implementing 3P. This information is used to estimate reach of the 3P curriculum, and to schedule observations. We will report this information back out to you when the teachers in your county submit the form.
Fidelity and Adaptations Log
For each semester (Fall/Spring) that a teacher/facilitator implements 3P, we ask that they complete the Fidelity and Adaptations Log once, for their most recent lesson. This form is a place for teachers to report what 3P activities they implemented, and any adaptations they made. In total, teachers/facilitators only need to complete this form twice per academic year.
School-level Sex Ed Practices Survey
Only this year, we are asking the lead health teacher in each school to complete a School-level Sex Ed Practices Survey. This survey collects information on sex ed policies, procedures, and practices, and will be used to understand current family life and human sexuality approaches across True You Maryland participating counties.
